UnCorked in Mayberry
UnCorked is a quaint wine shop located in Mt Airy, North Carolina, a small town in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area was first settled in 1747 and the first post office was established in 1832. The town of Mt. Airy was formed in 1889. The area became known as the Hollows because the community sits in a bowled depression surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mount Airy was world renowned for the White Sulfur Springs. The sulfur water was claimed to be a cure for many ailments afflicting people of that era. People from all across the world traveled to Mount Airy to drink the sulfur water fresh from the springs. Mt. Airy is also known for the Granite Quarry whose stone you will see on exteriors of many older homes located in the area. The area was also known for fine furniture as well as its textile industry in the late 1800's thru much of the 1900's. The best nationally known folks that were born in Mt. Airy – country music singer Donna Fargo, Southern Gospel quartet The Easter Brothers and the best known throughout the country, and still very popular, Andy Griffith, whose portrayal of Mayberry's Sherriff Andy Taylor in The Andy Griffin show tells of the places and people he grew up seeing and hearing about around Mt. Airy. Mt. Airy is still a small town with kind people and a good climate, a wonderful place to visit and a great place to live.
